10 Things That You Use Every Day That Can Cause Cancer
In our modern and technical world, there are many things that make life more convenient. At the same time, however, many of those things contain a dark secret – carcinogens. Here are 10 of those things, and some of them may surprise you.
1. Artificial sweeteners
It has been known for some time that some artificial sweeteners might cause cancer. These can be found in many foods and drinks. It may be best to avoid them where possible. Most foods are labeled accordingly.
While cosmetics help you look pretty and attractive, and many girls don’t want to be seen without them, they also contain a number of chemicals that could give you cancer. Among those chemicals are lead and mercury, as well as:
- Petroleum distillates
- Coal tar
- And more!
As a safer substitute, use organic and natural skin care products.
Tobacco in any form is a carcinogen. There are many chemicals in it that are harmful. Tobacco is responsible for stomach, lung, mouth, and other forms of cancer. Smoking also weakens the immune system, and causes many other health problems, too.
4. Soft Drinks
Some of the chemicals and dyes used to make soda are known to increase the risk of pancreatic cancer. People who drink a lot of soda are also at risk of losing calcium from their bones, and arthritis is also common.
Plastics contain chemicals that are known carcinogens. Two products used to create plastics are BPA (bisphenol A) and DEHA (diethylhexyl adipate). While BPA is being phased out in many places, DEHA is still commonly used. BPA has been linked to cancer, to heart disease, and to reproductive problems. BPA is being used in plastic bottles and in the lining of cans, where it is leaking into the water and food in those containers.
6. Nonstick Cookware
In order to make Teflon and other non-stick coatings for pans, PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) is used. This acid is a carcinogen. When heated above 300 degrees, the PFOA can leak into the food, or if it is scratched. Use other cooking pans instead.
The genes you received from your parents can be partly responsible for giving you cancer. In fact somewhere between five to ten percent of cancers are inherited. This includes:
8. X-rays and scanners
All those scans can add up to trouble. This includes, x-rays at the doctor or dentist’s office, mammograms, airport scanners, and more.
A recent study found that nanoparticles were in the lungs of children in the U.S. and in Paris. These nanoparticles are the same type used in cars. The study concluded that nanoparticles are probably in the lungs of everyone on earth. Nanoparticles are not only known carcinogens, but they are also responsible for many other illnesses, too.
10. Talcum powder
Talcum powder is often used to stay dry in hot weather. The problem is that it cause ovarian cancer. This can be a bigger problem for girls, who will use it around their genitals. It can get into the vagina, then to the ovaries, where it may cause cancer. Corn starch products are a better alternative.
